"St. Athanasius" Church and parish school - village of Chernichevo

"St. Athanasius" Church in Chernichevo village was built in the years 1847-1848, with the permission of the Turkish authorities. Ginyo Ginev, a wealthy man from the village, came up with the idea of the church. The property was a gift from a man who had a house in the same yard. The master builder was a man from Petkovo, Smolyan district. The church was burnt to the ground in 1913 and was rebuilt in 1921-1922 year.
Its length is 15 meters and its width is 11 metres. The iconostasis is carved, made in 1931-1932 by two craftsmen from Tryavna. It has a length of 11 meters and a height of 5 meters. The icons were brought from Edirne while the bell was made in "Bagryanka" in Sofia. Next to the entrance of the church, there are four memorial slabs dedicated to villagers who died in 1917.There is a tomb of a priest in the yard behind the temple.
The church is functional.
