Chapel "St. Spas" - village of Rezbartsi
It is located at the beginning of the road for Rezbartsi village, right before the first residential buildings. It is in a beautiful deciduous forest with large meadows and good water sources, near the banks of the Kyosh Dere River, which flows into the Arda River in the city. The area is a pleasant recreational place for citizens. Once a year, on Saint Spas Day in June, a big celebration called korban is held here. It is a ritual for good health, during which a sheep is cooked and eaten. Each year on this day, hundreds of people gather for the festive liturgy.
It is believed that a priest was buried near the village.The holy place cures terminally ill people who have come from all over the country.The mysterious tomb attracts Christians and Muslims from all over Bulgaria because of all the stories for its healing properties.
Older people say that "Kochadzha mezara" was buried here, which means a big, very tall man. According to a legend, the man fell from heaven and died on the sinful land. With the death of the giant the place gained an unexplained healing power. Some believe that this was an angel of Archangel Gabriel’ retinue. The locals buried him with honors and sang hymns and prayers for forty days.Both Christian and Muslim participated. Since then, the supposed angel has been thankful and protective of them. He wards off evil and heals the sick, the poor and the disabled, especially children.
Three open graves have been found nearby. An ornate gold cross, inlaid with precious stones, which is a sign it belonged to a senior cleric, was found in one of them. That is why locals informally call the “Papaz mezara” area i.e. a parson’s grave.People say that whoever tried to dig up bones or seek treasure in the grave, was at once paralyzed or lost his mind for a lifetime. The building – the "St. Spas " chapel is suitable for visiting both separately or in combination with the route to the protected habitat of fern called" Venus hair ", which is about 200 meters away from it.
