Rating:
(0)
In Stavroypoli and in other villages, during Halloween, is held this custom, which originated from Eastern Rumelia. The young ones build out of rags and bundles the simulacrum of a camel, they man her with two young boys and the “kamilieris”(camel man) who is dressed like an Arab, and they’re wandering from door to door in the village to the accompaniment of flute or tabor. The housekeepers tip the camel with treats and money. The animal, through it’s course, it represents the course of human life, with the mishaps and profits, symbolizing our submission to fate, that leads us firmly in our destination and no one can escape it.
