Church of Saint Nicholas in Eleutheroupoli

Rating:
(0)

The Church of Saint Nicholas, was built on the foundations of the post-Christian basilica (6th c.), which was probably dedicated to Saint Mena. The former church of Saint Nicholas (1759) was destroyed on a fire in 1971 and it was restored, maintaining its remarkable architectural elements. In the churchyard there are the graves of the city"s benefactor of Phrixus Papachristidi (1901-2001), who was a tobacco merchant and a shipowner, and of the bishop of Eleftheroupoli Meritorios.
