Mannaged reserve "Shabanitsa" (Trigrad) its main goal is to protect ancient beech-spruce forest. The "Shabanitsa" (Old Forest) was established in 1956 and is located on steep slopes upstream of Chairska River, about 40 km southeast of Trigrad village, close to the border with Greece, at an altitude of 1700 to 1800 m. The protected area covers 23 hectares and includes ancient beech-spruce forest over 200 years old. There are single spruce trees beyond the age of 350, and a height of 35 m. It is inhabited by deer and capercaillie. The only way to reach it starts from the road junction under Trigrad for Protected area "Chaira" it is long about 15 km and it in bad condition.
