"Treti Mart" Boulevard

Rating:
(0)

Dimitrovgrad and in particular the urban development complex of Treti Mart boulevard is a living evidence of state planning in the epoch of totalitarian rule and development of society, and its ideas of that time. The emblematic building of the house of culture, with a community cumtural centre and a cinema hall, is entirely in the stylistics of the new socialist architecture. The blocks of flats built along the line of Deveti Septemvri boulevard (currently Treti Mart boulevard) have architectural solutions which follow the doctrine of the “socialist classics”, imposed from abroad; they are monolithic, four-storey buildings, with pitched roofs, some of them with shops on the ground floors. The house of culture has a main façade with a portico and an attic, with a sculpture composition of a worker and a peasant woman. The sculpture composition is solved in the spirit of its time. It is impregnated with the popular symbolic figures of the worker and the peasant woman, but they are treated freely and in compliance with the specifics of the local productions – industrial chemistry and industry.
